Helen Dixon, Data Protection Commissioner for Ireland welcomed a 56% increase in funding for the Data Protection Commissioners Office. This dramatic funding increase will allow for the additional recruitment of 40 new staff in preparation for the GDPR implementation. Helen Dixon stated that GDPR is 2018 will “strengthen the data privacy rights of individuals and placing increased compliance and accountability on organisations processing personal data.’’

The additional €4m in funding is a direct result of new enforcement powers for the Data Commissioner’s office, which will be enacted into law on the 25th May, 2018. This implementation will have a huge effect in businesses in the Southeast. If you want to discuss in more detail, the implications of GDPR , please give HD HEANE Solicitors a call on 051 874856.
